Liberty The Rabbit, finds the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I shot this photo of Liberty as he was trying to graze on the neighbor's lawn, under their pine trees, where the grass does not grow.

I haven't seen the new baby rabbit around today. I'm hoping he's Ok, as there was an owl hooting up a storm all last night, so there's a chance that the new baby rabbit went to dinner with the owl, and didn't get any dessert.

Today's daily photo is of a tree rat (squirrel). This critter grabbed an apple off the Hopa crabapple tree and sat down to eat it, looking like he was saying; "Stay away, this apple is all mine!"

Rare are squirrel photographs these days for some reason. There isn't anywhere near the population of tree rats that once roamed around this area.

I still haven't managed to shoot any good pictures of that new baby rabbit. That little critter spooks very easy, and he zips right under the porch to its safe zone at the first hit of my presence.

Day 246 - Spurring On Autumn

Day 246/365 - Spurring On Autumn

Today's photo is a portrait-oriented shot of some sort of alpine Dwarf Larkspur or delphinium that is growing out in the front garden. For some odd reason, I've never been able to shoot very good photographs of these flowers, even though I have shot about 200 photos on different days, times of day, etc. However, this shot turned out halfway acceptable, so I chose it for my daily photo. I figured I'd better get a shot of these flowers in before Autumn comes along and kills them all off for the year.

I was hoping to get some decent photographs of the new baby rabbit that I've seen in Liberty's old hangout underneath the front porch, but this little guy is wary as can be, so I decided to shoot some flower photographs for today's daily entry instead.

Maybe after this new rabbit sees me around for a while, he'll let me get close enough to shoot some close-ups of him.

Today's photo is a macro of the seed pod from a Clematis. Interestingly, the Clematis blooms were quite poor again this year, and were not good candidates for photographing. It is just too hot against the South facing brick wall, for them to really thrive, so they bloom, but the blooms are not of a high quality.

However, the seed pods Clematis blooms leave behind are a different story. They do make for an interesting macro. In this photo it appears as though tentacles are reaching out from the center of the pod. I found the Depth of Field to be of interest in this shot as well, with some of the "tentacles" out of focus and some in focus.

Today is the first day of September. Autumn is in the air and its signs are all around. The birds are gathering in flocks for heading down south. The grass is growing slower. The leaves are hinting at changing colors.

I am hoping for a good prolonged Autumn, with lots of colorful foliage to whet my photography appetite for the fall displays. The Chive plants that were bright purple earlier in the year, are now brown and dried. I shot some close-ups of the shriveled, dried up blooms, and came away feeling that I didn't really have anything interesting in this batch of photographs.

Today's daily entry interested me, due to the bokeh present in this photograph. For some reason it just caught my eye as aesthetically pleasing, so I decided to use it for my daily, in place of another rabbit photo. :-)

It isn't that often I shoot a photo with a smooth bokeh like this, and to me they can be more interesting than a clean, crisply focused photograph.

Today is the last day of August. Wow! Summer flew by this year... I didn't have much time for photography today, so after mowing the lawn, I shot a few photographs of a sprinkler. Some of the holes in the sprinkler were plugged up with debris, so I was able to get about 2 feet away from it without getting wet.

Although this shot turned out nice, my little camera just doesn't have the shutter speed to capture the water streams in stop-action, but it did capture some of the water droplets in mid-air, which looked fairly interesting. So, I chose this shot as my daily photo entry.

Today was another day where I could only focus a few minutes during the late afternoon hours to practice my photography.

I'm not a fan of photographing spiders, but this tiny critter became visible while I was out shooting macro photographs of Morning Glories this evening, so I couldn't resist trying to get a shot of him.

The spider sitting on the edge of the Morning Glory is not much bigger than the tip of a pencil, so I didn't expect this photo to turn out as well as it did, since it was shot freehand in a fairly subdued light.

I shot my daily photo early today. I made my way outside just before dawn and noticed the moon was bright, even though it is in the Waning Gibbous stage now. So, I set up my tripod and shot a couple dozen photos of the moon.

We had some high cloud cover that obscured the moon on occasion, and this photograph was shot just as a thin cloud had begun to cover part of the moon, very lightly obscuring the bottom portion of the moon.

This is actually one of my best moon shots, and I am fairly pleased with how it turned out, especially since I am just using this little camera, with virtually no bells and whistles to speak of.

Today is another macro day. I spent some time out in the garage working on the truck's wiring. I got that all sorted out, but since it was raining and cloudy off and on, I didn't get out and about to shoot many outdoor photos.

So, I chose a semi-indoor macro of an air hose and chuck. I am finding that sometimes with my daily photo, the subject I photograph can be quite innocuous, or even downright boring, but I guess they can't all be "WOW!" shots.

Not much got done today. I spent most of the day in bed, as I wasn't feeling very well. Luckily, nothing urgent needed to get done, or I'd be scrambling.

My photography was limited to some macro shots of ordinary objects and some long-exposure shots after dark, when I finally started stirring.

Interestingly, this was more of an accidental opportunity shot, after I set the telephone handset down for a second, I noticed the glow of the keypad lights and then I turned off the lights, set the tripod and pointed it at the phone pad, then set a the timer. Presto! Daily Photo achieved.

This shot turned out the best out of all the miscellaneous photos I shot today, so I chose it for my daily photo.

Today looks like a rabbit day. I've been in a lot of pain, and I haven't been able to get out and about to shoot some photos of the town and other things that I've wanted to do. Chopping and splitting firewood should be super fun this year, while trying to deal with all that.

Anyway, Liberty The Rabbit, is growing up, and he's spreading his wings more and more. He still hangs around here every now and then, but soon, I think he'll be moving on, looking for a new home to shelter himself from the coming winter weather, which I think will be particularly brutal again this year if our cool summer weather has been any indication.

I'm going to miss my little pal as he finds his own way. Find your way in Liberty, my little friend.

After shooting a macro of a Morning Glory last night for my daily photo, this evening I tried to get serious about shooting some photos of the micro-flowers that I think are Baby's Breath. These flowers are just about the size of a pencil eraser and even though my camera shoots fairly decent macros, I still struggle getting some clear shots of these little floral displays.

These flowers are starting to wind down now, and their tiny blooms are dying off as Autumn is thinking about moving back into the area. So, I figured I'd better try and get some shots of these flowers before the opportunity no longer exists. This shot turned out to be my best one of the evening. Perhaps I'll manage to get some better shots of them, if I can find a time to shoot them when there is more light.

But, overall, I am not totally displeased with this photograph, as I think it is the best one I've shot of these little gems.

I didn't have the opportunity to go on my short photowalk today, but Liberty The Rabbit let me chase him around the yard tonight, not letting me shoot any photographs of him. So, I had to shoot photos of something that wouldn't hop out of my viewfinder. While out in the front garden this evening, I was looking at how the Morning Glory invasive weeds have adapted to their environment, by climbing up in other plants in order to get their blooms seen by passers-by.

This Morning Glory bloom had climbed into other flowers that grew in wild out in that garden, which I think is Baby's Breath. At least it has the little tiniest flowers you can imagine on it. The Morning Glory in this photo is about an inch across, and it absolutely dwarfs the flowers of the Baby's Breath in size. I haven't been able to get a decent shot of the Baby's Breath, but I'm still trying.

Even though I didn't get to go on a photowalk today, I think today was a good day for my photography.

While mowing the lawn today, I uncovered a lost treasure in the yard. I shot some macros of this 1-inch miniature pool ball where it was uncovered by the lawn mower. It is most likely part of an old keychain, but I don't know for sure, as I don't know where it came from. However, there is a small hole drilled in one side and there are keychains of that sort for sale on the Internet.

I thought it very odd that I would find something like this and after looking at the photos I shot of it, I couldn't help thinking of an odd title to go with it, so it was only natural to go with "The One."

I am thinking about going on short photowalks during the morning hours, but I don't know if my leg will hold out. We'll see... I might try a few blocks and back tomorrow morning, just to see how it goes.
