Day 69 - Dark Fractions or 2-5/16
Winter tried to make a comeback today, and we may be battling more snow tonight and tomorrow. The inclement weather has put a damper on outdoor photography so I chose a macro photo of a trailer hitch ball.
I know it is kind of an odd choice to shoot macro photos of, and perhaps the subject is a bit esoteric for most photographer's or viewer's palates, however, this photograph was the best I managed to shoot today for my daily photograph, so I chose to post it.

Day 68 - Stretch
I focused today's daily photograph on birds in flight. I haven't seen that Merlin falcon around for the past couple of days, and the birds have started to come around, so my chances of photographing different birds is looking up.
The most interesting photo I shot of a bird in flight was this photograph of a Eurasian Collared-Dove stretching its wings out in front of it as far as possible, while flying from one tree to the next, then calling to other doves nearby.
Their calling and alert noise isn't too bad as of yet, but pretty soon, we'll have 30 to 50 of those critters around here, and they rarely quiet down until late summer or early fall. They are pretty birds, but I don't look forward to the constant coo-coooo-coo all day long.

Day 67 - Nock, Nock!
I didn't spend much time on my daily photo project today. Just a few minutes spent on my daily, and then I cut open my head, going under a low branch on a tree.
However, before I gave myself a concussion, I shot some photos of the nock end of some aluminum arrows used in archery. I intend to start shooting target archery on a regular basis as soon as it warms up sufficiently, so I got my equipment out and thought the nock ends of arrows would make an interesting daily.

Day 66 - The Riddle Of Steel
"The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men, Gang aft agley..." - Robert Burns
I wanted to go on a photowalk today, but life often intervenes in my photography plans. So, needless to say, by the time I had a chance for my photowalk the weather had degraded, and the skies had turned gray, which put me off of my walk.
Late in the afternoon, I went out and looked for something of interest to shoot, thinking today may become a desperation photo day.
Luckily, I spied a subject that I had photographed in years past, but until recently, had been underneath about two feet of snow all winter. With poor lighting that was fading fast, I shot some photos of this subject, but I didn't expect to shoot anything worthwhile to post.
Fortunately, I was wrong, as this photo of a rusty nail, surrounded by dead leaves and ice turned out fairly interesting. I think one of the points of interest is the short DOF in the photo, capturing focus on a short section of the shaft of the nail.
The nail itself has been in this flowerbed for probably five or six years now, and it is interesting to see it rust more and more over the years.

Day 65 - Sniff! Sniff! I Smell Spring!
My day started out good, and quickly went downhill. Started feeling poorly and went to bed for most of the morning and mid-day. I forced myself to get up in late afternoon, so I could get my daily photograph shot and taken care of.
I didn't think I'd find anything to photograph with daylight fast fading. So, I spied a pair of Eurasian collared-doves (probably the same ones I shot for yesterday's daily) and was following them around the yard, shooting photos of them as they moved from tree to tree.
After a while of looking up and shooting photos of these birds, I happened to look down and was suprised to see one of the cottontail bunnies that live around here, sitting about 10 feet away from where I was standing. So I shot a few photographs of this critter, and I knew right off the bat that I had my daily photo, when it took serious notice of me, sniffing the air heavily as I shot this photograph, which is why its nose is curled up in a big sniff.
I named this critter "Frosty" the first time I saw this rabbit, mainly because I originally spied it during one of the days where we had thick rime ice on the bushes. That, and Frosty had a unique patch of white around its eye that I use to identify it.
All in all, I'm happy with today's daily photograph, since I thought I was going to have to go into desparation mode, to get it done.

Day 64 - First Watch
Today, we started out with a heavy, wet snowstorm, but in the afternoon it warmed up, melting most of the new snow. Birds are making their way back to Riverton for Spring, and other critters are starting to become more visible, as the weather warms.
In my daily photo for today, a pair of Eurasian Collared-doves roost on a branch of a Cottonwood tree about 40 feet off the ground, that had apparently been hit by lightning some time ago. One of these doves had dozed off, while the other stood watch, keeping a close eye on my activities far below them. The Eurasian Collared-dove is an invasive species. During the spring and summer months, they coo-coo almost constantly, which can sometimes get annoying when there are about 30 of them in one area.
I shot some decent photos of other birds today, including a Northern Flicker with a muddy beak, and a very nice photo of a Robin, which just missed out on becoming my choice for today's daily photo.
This photo is best viewed in a large size, so check it out...

Day 63 - Rose Hips Don't Lie
A macro of a Rose hip from a pink crackerbarrel rose bush was my final choice for today's daily photograph. These particular rose bushes bloom heavily in spring with hundreds and hundreds of flowers, making for some great photographic subjects, then leave behind these fanciful Rose hips in the wintertime.
I'm getting more than a little anxious for spring to arrive, so I'll be able to expand my subject matter for my 365 Project.

Day 62 - Stasis
Now that the snow and ice have started to melt around here, I was able to empty out a plastic garbage can that had become filled with debris, water, etc., turning into a giant block of ice with secrets surprises. After dumping the trash can, I kept finding gems embedded in the giant block of ice, such as these twigs and leaves from a Mock Orange bush, caught in a state of suspended animation, frozen solid for months in ice.
I got another late start on my daily photo project, and just when I begin to think I've run out of subjects to photograph, I manage to find something interesting at the last minute, such as today's entry.

Day 61 - 3:17 ante meridiem moon
My daily photograph came extremely early today, with a nice shot of a nearly full moon at a little past quarter after 3 this morning.
My camera has a hard time focusing in low-light conditions, so not all of my moon shots turn out this acceptable. However, this particular shot was in focus and it turned out nice, so I chose it as my 365 Project entry for today.

Day 60 - Patience
The weather was very warm today, clear up in the mid 40s. In the sunlight, the snow has begun melting, but in the shade, the snow is slow to respond. This seed from an Ash tree, must be patient for its turn to make contact with the ground, in order to try to take root.
I too, must have the same patience that this ash tree seed exhibits, as I am equally as ready for spring to bring forth color and growth.

Day 59 - Anticipation
Today was a warm day, and the snow has started to recede in earnest. It will probably take a few weeks to get rid of the 5 foot drifts and areas where the snow has been shoveled or plowed into piles.
This photograph of last year's leaves of a rose bush, still had some coloring to them, so I shot a few macros of the leaves, in anticipation of blooming roses, green grass, green leaves, and just a general sense of renewal.
Winter has felt especially long and fairly harsh this year, compared to recent years, and I am glad that February is now gone, with March finally arriving tomorrow. I had been growing weary of winter and this afternoon's warm respite was just what I needed to start anticipating Spring!

Day 58 - A Lineman's Memories
Memorabilia from an era long since past, a Mountain Bell lineman's handset dial and decorative hardhat make for an interesting focal point for a macro shot. I shot this to create an 8x10, 11x14 or maybe a 16x20 inch print, to be used as a photographic backdrop in a display of old Ma Bell/USWest memoribilia for a family member.
I wanted to shoot this photograph with the sun at a little higher angle, so the shadows would be a little more shallow, but this shot turned out pretty nice. I may end up shooting more photos of these subjects to get it down to near perfect, but I liked this particular shot enough to choose it for my daily photograph.

Day 57 - No More Secrets
Secrets hidden by Winter snows are finally being revealed as the abundant snow degrades and melts in nature's quest for Spring.
In this photograph, the leaves of Day Lilies have fallen and wrapped over a decorative piece of branch driftwood. I'm happy to see the snow melt, and this shot felt a little bit like the light at the end of the tunnel, so I chose it for my 365 Project.
I didn't get to spend much time outside for shooting photographs, as I have a cold, so I thought it best not to spend too much time out there, lest I aggravate it.
It was a nice day today, 36°F and mostly sunny, so I did miss out on a decent day of photography. My photography time today, I spent shooting for my daily rather than my self-portrait practice, so that allowed me to focus more attention to the quality of photo for my 365 project.

Day 56 - Heartwood
Today's 365 Project entry is a photograph of the end of a twig where it was broken off the trunk of a small tree, which provided interest for my daily photo today. The end grain, and heartwood of this little twig looked interesting, so I chose it for my daily photograph.
I didn't have many photographs to choose from for my 365 Project today. I spent most of my photography time today, shooting self-portraits for practice and shooting some family photos. Unfortunately, I didn't focus much time at all today on finding anything to photography for my daily and it shows, as it isn't a very interesting subject.
Well, tomorrow is another day, and I'll try harder to find something interesting to bring to the table.
